If you are looking for a vacation that makes a statement book a journey with Wilderness Travel in 2019. The tour operator launched several new journeys for the coming year that take guests to corners of the globe few have visited for epic hikes, cultural experiences, wildlife viewing and more.
Travelers can visit Kyrgyzstan and hike and mingle with locals on the Silk Road. The journey travels through the Celestial Mountains and see ancient caravanserais and picturesque lakes, eat authentic cuisine and help build a yurt.
Wilderness Travel is also taking travelers hiking in the Azores. The journey, taking place in September of next year, explores four of stunning volcanic isles of the Azores for unusual hiking opportunities around calderas and around the rims of craters. There's also whale watching, a visit to Europe's only tea plantation, cheese and wine tasting and more.
In New Zealand, Wilderness Travel takes guests on another epic hike on the Te Araroa trail that spans the entire length of the country. Hiking the entire trail takes more than five months, so the tour operator takes guests along the best parts of the hike over 14 days.
Culture seekers can visit China on the Classic Era Ceramics: Cultural Heritage of Southeast China, a 21-day expedition through porcelain capitals that gives guests the chance to meet the craftsmen and visit famous kilns and museums as well as two Chinese national parks.
Japan: Temples, Pearl Divers and Pilgrimage Trails is a new journey taking place in October of next year. The trip, curated by popular trip leader Kate Ulberg, is a cultural walking adventure through the country, following pilgrim trails and exploring many temples and shrines along the way.
Wilderness Travel also takes its guests to India in 2019 with the new Festivals, Cultures and Wildlife of Northeast India. Is a deep dive into the culture of northeast India with the unique opportunity to attend the Hornbill and Sangai festivals in the country's hill tribes.
In South America, guests can travel to a ninth-century warrior-shaman pre-Inca culture, Chachapoyas, in Peru and explore the mysteries of Chavin in the Peruvian Andes.
In Europe, new journeys include Scotland's Orkney Islands: Great Coastal Hikes and Viking Heritage and the Hiking the French Pyrenees as well as the opportunity to the magnificent culture and cuisine in Friuli, Giulia and Venezia, Italy.
