Do It for Denmark: Danish Travel Company Announces Risqué Competition
Travel Agent Ryan Rudnansky April 02, 2014

Spies, a Danish travel agency, released a YouTube video last week that will leave you speechless.
No, I’m not using that phrase liberally. It will literally leave you speechless. This is the kind of video that comes around once in a generation—nay, once in a century.
According to Spies, Denmark’s birth rate is at a 27-year low. So, naturally, the company decided to hold a “little competition.” The competition: Prove you conceived a child while on one of their vacations, using Spies’ signature pregnancy tester and you will be entered into a drawing for a three-year supply of baby products, as well as a “child-friendly holiday.”
That in itself is a one-of-a-kind offering, but the video brings it all together…
The video presents a character named Emma who is from Denmark but was conceived in Paris. It shows her visiting the same hotel room she was conceived in 30 years ago, while dropping the line, “If these walls could talk.” The idea behind it: 10 percent of Danish children are conceived on holidays, and Danish people have 46 percent more sex on these special days. So, Spies is encouraging people from Denmark to basically go on a vacation and conceive a child (hey, do it for your country, Danes).
Spies even got a sexologist to talk about the idea.
“To travel and to get new experiences affects relationships because couples see each other in a new light,” she says. “It releases endorphins in the brain and creates the desire for sex.”
Of course, there is plenty of imagery to highlight Denmark’s lack of children: old people sitting on a couch, a barren playground with unoccupied slides and tire swings, stuff like that.
And if you’ve already conceived a child or can’t have one, Spies reminds everyone that it’s not just about winning a competition—“All the fun is in the participation.”
Utterly fantastic.
