A trip to Alaska is on a lot of travelers' bucket lists. People are eager to experience the beautiful scenery and wildlife. However, it's not always the easiest trip to plan alone. ShoreTrips has helped by creating a quick start guide.

First things first, choosing the time of travel is a huge factor when heading to this state. It's best to avoid the winter months when there are frigid temperatures and lots of snow-not to mention the lack of daylight hours.

June and July are the warmest months and best for being able to participate in outdoor activities. The months of May and September are the start and end to the peak season but will have the best prices since the weather is cooler.

Next on the list is deciding what type of vacation to do. Taking a cruise is the most popular way to tour Alaska, and it's a great way to see a lot of areas without having to constantly pack and unpack. Travelers can also choose to see Alaska by rail or even rent a car and travel at their leisure.

Lastly, choosing the in-destination activities can be the most exciting part of the planning process. There are endless amounts of adventures in Alaska, from helicopter rides and dog sledding to rafting and whale watching.
