Whale Watching in the Dominican Republic

While the Dominican Republic is known for its perfect year-round weather, pristine beaches and warm, turquoise waters, it’s also known as an ideal viewing spot for one of nature’s most spectacular events—whale watching.
Between mid-December and late March, thousands of humpback whales congregate just off the coast and Barceló Bavaro Grand Resort in Punta Cana is the perfect home base for a whale watching trip in the Dominican Republic.
The Sanctuary of the Humpback Whales in Samaná, located in the northeast corner of the Dominican Republic, is one of the best whale watching experiences in the world. Not only will you see full-grown humpbacks, but you’ll also see plenty of newborn calves swimming under the watchful eye of their mothers.
There’s sure to be plenty of male humpbacks also, likely battling for the attention of their prospective mates. A fun activity in itself, you’ll see them leaping out of the water and slapping their fins and tails.
Not only does the Dominican Republic offer plenty of whale watching guides, but Barceló Bavaro Grand Resort offers several tours of the Samaná area. Both Samaná Adventure and Samaná Discovery allow you plenty of stunning views as you walk through the mountains, visit the spectacular Limón Waterfalls and more.
There’s no better time than now. Whale watching season has just begun and this is definitely an event you don’t want to miss.
