Believe it or not, sharks aren't as bad as the rep they receive.
SeaWorld Cares details some facts most don't know about this infamous ocean beast.
1. Sharks aren't craving food as much you think
Perhaps a surprise to some, sharks don't have that much of an appetite. They have a lower metabolism, and per a SeaWorld blogger, "a shark eats about 1-10 percent of its total body weight each week."
2. Sharks are energy efficient
The way the body of a shark is designed, it "requires minimum energy to swim." They mostly just like to chill.
3. Sharks can also be vulnerable
Blame overfishing here. The unfortunate news is that a reduced population in a shark community "can take years or decades to recover."

4. Speedy but mostly slow
A majority of sharks are slow swimmers. We're talking around 3 mph. Of course, they can speed it up. One of fastest sharks is the Makos, which can reach up to 30mph!
5. They're just not that into you
Attacks are what give sharks such a bad rep. But, per a SeaWorld blogger, "only 32 (of roughly 350) shark species have ever been known to attack people." Most times it's a shark is confused it's a seal or the shark is trying to protect itself and territory.
