The last 12 months have seen us pack away the selfie stick, spend more time with our family and actually whittle down how many travel apps we use.

It was a good year from a travel perspective, despite some of the following stories and trends we happened upon throughout the year.

If we could just get rid of these trends like we did to that sweater our Aunt gave us last Christmas, we will be just fine in the new year.

Hotels Just Forgetting To Clean Stuff:

2016 was a constant reminder that hotel staff can be remarkably lazy. Unfortunately for their visitors, some of the cleaning staff forgets to clean those sheets and dust off those heavily used items.

The above video highlights those brands that failed the utterly simple task of showing off a clean hotel room.

While a filthy room filled with horrible germs is a fantastic amenity to have, we would love if things changed for the better in 2017.

Celebrities Desecrating Sacred Areas:

Not sure when it became popular to completely disregard the sanctity of beloved locations but it needs to stop.

This year we discovered that Jennifer Lawrence once used a sacred rock like a butt scratching post and Vanessa Hudgens etched her way to a hefty fine after carving up rocks in Sedona, Arizona.

Human-Powered Pedal Cabs:

Most of these things don't let you actually drink on the rig. They also mandate you work out for a good time. And you slow down traffic in already congested parts of town.

The greatest reason, however, we want this craze to slow is that you look absolutely ridiculous. Just stumble to the next bar like a normal human being.

Guy Fieri:

Guy Fieri, the culinary equivalent of a Smashmouth music video, had a very good year in 2016 - contrary to essentially every other breathing human being on the planet.

First came news that his New York City restaurant was one of the more successful in the nation. Then we discovered even more Fieri food would hit Carnival.

This is like finding out that you suddenly woke up in the front row of a Sugar Ray concert and discovered the exits were all blocked and you still had two hours of deep cuts to go through.

Kardashian Travel Pics:

Kim Kardashian's Instagram feed is basically a trove of seflies of her on the beach, selfies of her putting on make-up, selfies of her in a bathroom, selfies of her by the pool and selfies of selfies, which are particularly infuriating.

It's perhaps time we look elsewhere for entertainment. We hear walls with drying paint hold more intrinsic value.

Ancillary Fees:

At some point we will have to pay to use the seat-back pocket in front of our seats. Of this we have no doubt.

Not Taking Vacation:

This is like letting someone throw out that extra slice of pizza at dinner. What kind of monster would allow such an abomination to happen, especially when the hypothetical treasure isn't pizza but unforgettable memories?

Watching Porn at Wi-Fi Kiosks:

We aren't sure when pornography became a spectator sport, but kiosks in New York City and India have become smut hubs.

These were innovations meant to spread goodwill and infinite knowledge to the masses in the form of abundant Wi-Fi. Maybe our first resolution in January should be to simply act like decent people in public. Just a thought.

Samsung Galaxy Devices Exploding:

It was an interesting marketing ploy, but Samsung should refrain from putting out devices that catch fire on a whim. Another thought.

Going To Cuba Without Me:

Finally, I have to call out what has become a disconcerting trend. And that's countless travelers leaving the United States to sample the wonder that is Cuba.

And, to my utter dismay, they have all gone without me. It's a shocking turn of events I hope gets remedied in 2017.
