You can already rent out Leonardo DiCaprio's Palm Springs compound, but soon you'll be able to relax on the Oscar-nominated actor's island.
According to Julie Satow of the New York Times, the 40-year-old thespian has announced plans to turn his Caribbean island off the coast of Belize, Blackadore Caye, into an eco-resort.
DiCaprio purchased the island for $1.75 million back in 2005, but has yet to develop it.
Now, with the help of New York-based developer Delos, he hopes to restore the island, which has suffered immensely from overfishing and deforestation.
In addition to leaning on Delos to craft the island into an appealing vacation spot, DiCaprio is working alongside ecologists and conservationists an in effort to minimize the resort's environmental footprint.
"The main focus is to do something that will change the world," said DiCaprio. "I couldn't have gone to Belize and built on an island and done something like this, if it weren't for the idea that it could be groundbreaking in the environmental movement."
Upon completion, the resort will include more than five dozen guest villas and roughly 50 private houses which will sell anywhere between $5 million and $15 million.
But there'll also be habitats for fish and manatees, as well as ocean fauna and mangrove forests
The resort is scheduled to be open to guests by 2018.
DiCaprio previously had a deal in place with Four Seasons to develop a resort on the island, but it ultimately fell through. "My goal was always the fact that I wanted to create something not just environmental, but restorative," said DiCaprio. "A showcase for what is possible."
