A US Airways flight simulator technician was fatally stabbed by a co-worker at a facility near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, KPNX-TV reported.
Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Vince Lewis told KPNX-TV that the two employees got into an argument and one of the technicians stabbed the other with a sharp object. The victim, identified only as male, was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.
The incident did not impact passenger flight operations at the airport.
Police have detained the employee who allegedly stabbed the man in an office hallway at the facility, which is located separately from passenger terminals at the airport.
Lewis said the man was cooperating with authorities.
So far, no charges have been filed in the case. Names of the two employees involved and other details surrounding the incident remain unknown as well.
American Airlines spokesman Andrew Christie issued a statement on the incident Wednesday, via KPNX-TV:
"This morning we lost a member of the American Airlines family in a tragic incident in Phoenix. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of our colleague. We have mobilized teams to provide care to our colleague's family, as well as our fellow employees, during this difficult time. We are also cooperating with Phoenix Police Department."
US Airways merged with American Airlines in 2013 and it was announced earlier this month that the carrier's final flight would take place on Oct. 16.
