American
Airlines is expanding its already massive footprint across Mexico,
the Caribbean
and Latin America (MCLA), reaching a major milestone this year, with the
addition of its 100th destination in the region.
The carrier has announced
two new international routes from its Miami
hub, including service to Maracaibo, Venezuela (MAR), and Cap-Haitien, Haiti
(CAP). The additions will bring American's operations across MCLA to an even
100 destinations, making its network in the region almost 50 percent larger
than the closest U.S. competitor.
“American connects
the U.S. with Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America better than any other
airline,” said Chief Commercial Officer Nat Pieper. “We are committed to
serving the needs of travelers by offering the most flights to the most
destinations in the region of any U.S. carrier.”
New Flights to
Venezuela
American will add
nonstop service between Miami and Maracaibo beginning July 14, becoming the
only U.S. airline to offer direct flights on the route. The new route will
operate daily aboard Embraer 175 aircraft equipped with premium cabin seating
and free high-speed Wi-Fi sponsored by AT&T.
The new Maracaibo service
is expected to make it easier for travelers to visit loved ones and maintain
business connections, in conjunction with American's existing twice-daily service
between Miami and Caracas.
A Return to
Haiti
Starting November
1, American will resume flights to Haiti with daily nonstop service between
Miami and Cap-Haitien. The route will be operated on Boeing 737 aircraft and
feature premium cabin options and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi sponsored by
AT&T.
The new service
is expected to be especially beneficial for the South Florida
community, home to the largest Haitian-American population in the U.S., while
also providing convenient one-stop connections for travelers in markets like New
York and Orlando.
More Flights
Across the Region
American is also
increasing its existing service from Miami this winter. The airline, which
operates more than 410 departures from the airport on peak days, will add
flights on several popular routes throughout the region.

(GIG) for the full winter season
- Up to eight daily flights to San Juan,
Puerto Rico (SJU)

Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (STT)
