As travelers
continue to crave uncrowded, off-the-beaten-path destinations, Miches is
emerging as an increasingly popular option for sun-seekers in the Dominican
Republic. ALG Vacations (ALGV) is among the suppliers eyeing Miches as a unique
choice for travel advisors, too, according to Jacki Marks, the company’s global
head of trade sales and engagement.
“For travelers
who love Punta Cana, Miches offers a natural next step — another side of the
Dominican Republic that feels more unspoiled and deeply connected to its
surroundings,” she said. “You still have that ease of travel and beautiful
coastline, but here, it’s paired with a quieter atmosphere, where expansive
beaches and lush landscapes really take center stage. At ALGV, we’re focused on
helping advisors introduce clients to destinations such as this as they look
for new experiences, while still delivering the level of comfort and
familiarity they expect from the Dominican Republic.
Miches offers
many of the qualities that Caribbean-bound vacationers seek: lush scenery, a
relaxing vibe, diverse accommodation options and opportunities to participate
in a variety of nature-based activities.
“Miches has a
very strong sense of place,” Marks said. “It’s defined by its unspoiled
coastline, its proximity to mountains and rainforest, and its authentic,
untouched surroundings. While more established destinations offer energy and
variety, Miches is a more relaxed, immersive experience, where nature and a
slower pace are a central part of the stay.”

An Ideal Alternative
for Repeat Visitors
Miches is a
logical choice for travelers who are repeat visitors to the Caribbean,
according to Marks.
“We’re seeing
strong interest from well-traveled guests — people who know the Caribbean and
are looking for something that feels a bit more undiscovered,” she said. “It’s
especially appealing to travelers who value space, privacy and a more
intentional experience but still want the comfort of a high-quality resort
stay. For advisors, it creates a meaningful opportunity to reengage repeat
clients with something fresh and differentiated.”
The growing
appeal of Miches ties in with general trends, Marks adds.
“We’re seeing
increased interest in destinations that feel less developed and more authentic,
while still offering the comfort and seamless experience travelers
expect," she explained. "Miches delivers that balance. You can spend
the day exploring places such as Los Haitises National Park or connecting with
local traditions, and then return to a beautifully designed resort along Playa
Esmeralda.”

ALGV is
proactively expanding its portfolio in destinations like Miches so that
advisors have the right mix of products as demand evolves, along with the
support to confidently guide clients toward what’s next.
Indeed, the
fresh, less-discovered aspects of Miches are complemented by the familiarity of
ALGV’s well-established brands. As part of the Hyatt family, the company brings
together vacation brands that can bundle air, hotel, transfers, tours and more.
The ALGV portfolio includes Apple Vacations, Funjet Vacations, Travel
Impressions and United Vacations, all of which provide convenient sales
opportunities for advisors looking to connect clients with brands that inspire
comfort and confidence.
In its own
destination guide, ALGV handily summarizes the appeal of Miches, highlighting a
variety of can’t-miss activities, including searching for migrating humpback
whales, riding ATVs along backcountry trails, visiting cacao farms and relaxing
on the sands of Playa Esmeralda. The company recommends a five-day itinerary,
as well as private transfers to and from Punta Cana International Airport,
which is about 63 miles away.
Additionally,
ALGV partners with several resorts in the region, allowing advisors to enhance
the destination’s off-the-beaten-path ambience with recognizable,
client-pleasing hotel brands. Options include both adults-only and
family-friendly properties, including Secrets Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa;
Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa; Zemi Miches All-Inclusive Resort,
Curio Collection by Hilton; and Viva Miches by Wyndham, a Trademark All
Inclusive Resort.

The Power of
Partnership
By working with
trusted vacation brands and resort partners, ALGV is helping boost travel to
Miches, while also providing education and marketing tools for the travel
agency community.
“Resorts such as
Secrets and Dreams Playa Esmeralda are helping introduce travelers to the area
in a way that feels elevated but still very connected to the surrounding
environment,” Marks said. “Plus, with Amstar DMC tours available in the region,
the same style and level of service is available for tours that would be in
other popular destinations. At the same time, we’re equipping advisors with
tools like ready-to-use social media content and customizable collateral
through ALGV360°, along with training through ALGVPro and ongoing webinars, so
they can confidently sell emerging destinations such as Miches and maximize
their bookings.”
The evolution of
Miches demonstrates the importance of partnership and investment, Marks adds.
“What’s happening
in Miches is a strong example of industry collaboration,” she said. “Partners
such as ALGV, Hyatt Inclusive Collection, Amstar and the Dominican Republic are
aligned around a shared vision to develop the destination thoughtfully and with
long-term impact in mind. It’s not just about bringing new resorts to market;
it’s about building a sustainable foundation.”

Part of that
commitment includes investment in the local community. Marks notes that ALGV
coordinates volunteer give-backs at a newly opened local technical college with
a hospitality focus that trains local talent and creates career opportunities
as tourism grows.
“For us, being
part of that collaboration means we’re able to connect advisors to a
destination that’s not only emerging, but also being developed in a way that’s
intentional, responsible and built for the future,” she said.
ALGV also
demonstrates its support for Miches by hosting industry leaders at its Elite
Emerald Retreat, the most recent of which took place in May at the Secrets and
Dreams Playa Esmeralda resorts.
“Hosting our
Elite agency members in Miches speaks to our confidence in the area as an
emerging destination,” she said. “Hosting the Elite Emerald Retreat at Secrets
and Dreams Playa Esmeralda brings the advisor community into the destination to
experience it firsthand — from the setting itself to the overall guest
experience. For us, it’s also about ensuring advisors are always connected to
what’s next, with direct exposure to new destinations, stronger supplier
relationships and the support systems in place to help them succeed as demand
continues to evolve.”
