Craziest Comments Clients Have Said To Travel Advisors

They Said What?

1/13
If you've ever worked a job dealing with people you know that they can be a lot of things, including downright weird and wacky at times. A good travel advisor can please almost any personality but some clients are simply lost causes, at least in terms of their requests. Here are some of the craziest comments travel advisors have received from real-life clients.

People Are Still Confused About Hawaii

2/13
Geography certainly isn't for everyone but you'd be surprised by how many travelers mix up the Aloha State's location in relation to the mainland United States. "I want to go to Hawaii but don't fly or don't want to go on a boat, Can I take a train?" A client once asked travel advisor Debbie M. After quoting a client for airfare costs to Hawaii, another advisor, Holly S. said "she told me it was too expensive, she was going to call Greyhound and get the rate for a bus ticket."

Another travel professional, Sue D. said that she once asked a client which Hawaiian island she wanted to visit and her response was "just the main one, I will drive to the others." Helen P. says that she was once asked where to find the bridge from California to Hawaii. "Can I pick up the car in Honolulu and drop it off when I get to Maui?" another client asked travel advisor Jennifer M.

People Are Really Still Confused About Hawaii

3/13
In addition to getting there, some travelers are mystified about Hawaii's status as a U.S. state. "Recently, I had someone ask if they need a passport for Hawaii," says Kim K. Meanwhile, Geoff M. "had a client ask what kind of money they use in Hawaii."

Europe Can Be a Big, Confusing Place

4/13
"What hotel in Athens offers a view of the Colosseum?" A client once asked travel advisor Jennfier M. Unfortunately, the Colosseum is located in Rome, which is more than 650 miles from the Greek capital.

The Colosseum isn't alone in its ability to baffle. The Sistine Chapel in Vatican City has often confused some tourists who mistake its name for the numeral. "I had a client livid after her trip to Italy because her tour only took her to see one of the 'sixteen' chapels," says Byrd B.

Child Support Conundrum

5/13
It's safe to say that Tammy Levent, founder of the award-winning Elite Travel, has experienced her fair share of bizarre or maybe even crazy requests from clients since entering the business two decades ago. "When I first started, I had a client go on a cruise to the Bahamas on his honeymoon. I got a collect call at the office from a jail in Miami. 'I have been arrested for child support arrears in Miami, my fiancee left me because I never told her I had kids with a previous relationship. I dont have anyone, can you help me get the bond [money] and I will pay you back when I get out?'" Levent said the answer was an emphatic "no."

Travel Advisor or Poseidon?

6/13
Travel advisors often work miracles when their clients are in a pinch but gods of the sea? A client said to me "I want you to make sure there is no seaweed washing up out of the ocean," says travel advisor Mona B. Another advisor, Tiffany N. said that a client once complained that "the beach had way too much sand."

Cruise Ships and Planes Don't Make Pit Stops

7/13
"I was asked [by a client] if a cruise ship could stop in Virginia to pick up their family members along the way." travel advisor Stephany H. told TravelPulse. Elite Travel's Tammy Levent also had a client ask "will they let me spread my mother's ashes out of the plane?"

Too Much Information

8/13
"A client asked to plan a trip and activities around his girlfriend's [menstrual] cycle," travel advisor Jeni Chaffer said. "It was a surprise trip for her."

Is There a Babysitter Onboard?

9/13
Travelers should always be patient with parents of young children on a long flight but there are only so many options in the sky. "Do they offer babysitting service on long flights to Europe on the plane?" A client once asked Elite Travel's Tammy Levent.

That's Against the Law

10/13
"A client asked if it was OK if they bring edibles to Mexico. I said no that would be dangerous and the client said 'they look like candy.' I told her there were drug-sniffing dogs. She said, 'well, they just smell like gummy bears,'" says Alexa S.

'I Guess That's Why They Call It Sin City'

11/13
Prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas but not everyone is aware. "A client came in and asked if I could reserve and prepay prostitutes for his son's bachelor party in Las Vegas," says Dean G.

When Karma Strikes Back

12/13
What's that saying about Karma? "I had a prominent business owner take his wife and girlfriend on a trip to the NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii at the time. In any case, he had a heart attack in the stadium during the game," says Elite Travel's Tammy Levent.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident and a Vacation

13/13
While not so much a "comment," this experience is certainly worthy of an honorable mention. "I had a client going to Dubai with his girlfriend. I helped him get his passport and a month before he was going he had a hit and run. He was the driver, got arrested and I still have his original birth certificate, his passport and all of his personal belongings. I have no idea what to do with them. I tried to get a hold of him in jail to no avail," said Elite Travel's Tammy Levent. "He won't be going anywhere for a while."
