Weird and Wacky Requests Travel Agents Received From Clients

Strange Requests and Comments From Clients

1/12
People are weird. They do and say crazy things. Some of these people turn to travel agents to help with their vacation plans, which ultimately leads to great stories. TravelPulse reached out to several travel agents to find out what wild requests they've received from their clients.

People are Really Confused About Hawaii

2/12
"I want to go to Hawaii but don't fly or don't want to go on a boat, Can I take a train?" - Debbie M. AGENTatHOME Community member.

"Do they serve real American food in Hawaii? Or do Hawaiians still live in grass huts? Or do you need a passport to visit Hawaii? Don't know if they qualify since all of these questions have been asked more than once" - Steve K. - AAH Community member.

"I had a client tell me the islands in Hawaii look close together so in order to save money, she would drive instead of fly!" - Krista M. - AAH Community member.

Toilet Fear

3/12
"I was asked to see if Secrets Papagayo could remove their clear bathroom doors because her husband had a "poop phobia" and couldn't use the bathroom if they didn't and that would make for a long week." - Dale H. - AAH Community member.

That's Not How Cruises Work

4/12
"'I've had a couple. One, a request for a ferry to Mexico from the U.S. (Texas) and two was to do a European cruise from Los Angeles." - Michele C. AAH Community member.

That's Really Not How Cruises Work

5/12
"I was asked if a cruise ship could stop in Virginia to pick up their family members along the way." - Stephany H. - AAH Community member.

Request for a Dolphin

6/12
"One of my luxury clients decided she wanted a real dolphin for her son's 6th birthday and figured since they had rented a vacation villa that had a huge saltwater pool that it would be a great idea. She calls and asks me if I could make it happen. My first reaction was: 'Are you talking about a live dolphin or a remote controlled one?'

"Of course, she said a real one and she didn't care how much the cost. I told her I'd see what I could find out. Well, after several calls to see if that was even possible, I called her husband to provide him with the news. Of course, he was shocked about the request and told me not to listen to his wife. She was just trying to impress their invited guest!"

Honeymoon Special

7/12
"Do any hotels give a discount to honeymooners who stayed virgins until they got married?" - Caroline Fridley, an advisor with Protravel, Inc. in Atlanta.

Sneaking on a Cruise?

8/12
AAH Community member Morgan B. said a client once told her "My spouse cannot leave the U.S. legally. How can I sneak him on a cruise ship?"

Safety First?

9/12
"We once had a client request a middle seat on an airplane because he thought the other passengers would help cushion him in case of a crash, and then he would be more likely to survive." - Sarah Nelson, Vice President of Travel Leaders San Jose and Vice President of A World of Travel in Gilbert, Arizona

The Game is Important

10/12
"I know someone who called me to fly home three days early from their trip because they found out the hotel didn't have the TV channel to play the football game they wanted to watch." - Caitlyn Gambino, owner of Aum Journeys in Detroit, Michigan

Early Exit

11/12
"One time a woman flew home from her trip to Italy in the middle of it because she couldn't stand the woman she booked the trip with/was sharing a room with, paid $1,000 to leave early and lost out on the rest of her tour/no refund." - Caitlyn Gambino, owner of Aum Journeys in Detroit, Michigan

Risky Business

12/12
"The wackiest request that I have had in my almost seven years of being a travel agent was for a couple that was seeking a trip to Amsterdam. They expressed a lot of interest in wanting to be near the red-light district. No worries, I found them a boutique hotel in the middle of the red-light district, problem solved!

"Then they asked if I could assist them with setting up a potential "3rd party" to join him and his wife in their hotel. It took me a moment to realize what he was asking me to do. They wanted to have an 'experience' with a prostitute and asked for my recommendation on how to set it up. I was shocked! I thought they were making a joke, but they were serious!"
