The Best US Airports for Cheap International Flights

The Top Hubs for Savings Abroad

1/11
The team of experts at Scott's Cheap Flights recently revealed the 10 U.S. airports that offer the most frequent flight deals on international travel. In the first six months of 2021, SCF sent thousands of flight deals from as many as 168 domestic airports to its members. To determine which airports offer the most frequent deals on international flights, SCF analyzed commercial international airports in metro areas with a population of at least one million people, and collected data on how many deals were sent to members for cheap flights departing from each airport in the past year. Here's a look at the best of the best.

10. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

2/11
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport offers travelers nonstop flights to more than 70 international destinations. While its a hub for American Airlines, the airport is serviced by nearly two dozen other carriers, which creates the ideal environment for deals, SCF points out. DFW produced 140 deals in the first six months of 2021, with the average roundtrip international deal coming in under $500 and the lowest dipping to a mind-boggling $133.

9. Philadelphia International Airport

3/11
On the East Coast, Philadelphia International Airport is served by more than two dozen airlines flying to over 140 destinations in nearly 40 countries on direct flights, including hotspots in Europe, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. While it's one of the largest hubs for American, SCF reports that other airlines often try to compete, leading to frequent flights deals on overseas travel.

8. Boston Logan International Airport

4/11
Elsewhere in the Northeast, Boston Logan International Airport ranks as the eighth-best U.S. airport for international flight deals in 2021, producing 160 deals over the first half of the year, including Boston to Lisbon, Portugal for as low as $351.

7. San Francisco International Airport

5/11
With 168 international flight deals produced over the first six months of 2021 and an average of 28 deals per month, San Francisco International Airport ranks seventh overall. SFO, a United Airlines hub served by nearly four dozen airlines in total, transports passengers to more than 50 destinations in Canada, Mexico, Central America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania.

6. Miami International Airport

6/11
Miami International Airport is one of only six airports to produce more than 200 international flight deals over the first half of 2021, based on SCF's findings. The third-busiest airport in the country by international passenger traffic is a hub for American and a focus city for other carriers such as Avianca, Frontier Airlines and LATAM Airlines, meaning travelers can often find great deals on travel to the Caribbean and Latin America.

5. Dulles International Airport

7/11
Offering direct flights to more than 50 international destinations on as many as five continents, Virginia's Dulles International Airport outside of Washington, D.C. narrowly edges MIA with 204 total international flight deals over the first half of the year, with the average roundtrip deal coming in at $470 and the lowest reaching $157.

4. Los Angeles International Airport

8/11
The West Coast's largest and busiest airport remains a hub or focus city for more airlines than any other airport in the country so its positioning on this list isn't at all surprising. LAX produced a whopping 207 international flight deals over the first half of 2021, which is more than one per day.

3. O'Hare International Airport

9/11
The busiest in America by number of flights, O'Hare International Airport in Chicago is tied for the second-best domestic airport for international flight deals heading into the second half of the year, producing 208 international flight deals for SCF members between January and June 2021, with the average discounted roundtrip rate coming in at $479 and the lowest dipping to $157.

2. Newark-Liberty International Airport

10/11
Tying O'Hare, Newark-Liberty International Airport saw the same amount of cheap flight deals over the first half of the year (208) but edged out ORD with an average roundtrip rate of $460 on those deals and the lowest coming in at a remarkably affordable $125.

1. John F. Kennedy International Airport

11/11
NYC's John F. Kennedy International Airport boasts all of the right conditions for cheap international flights. As SCF notes, JFK is a hub for two of the Big Four U.S. carriers in American Airlines and Delta Air Lines and the homebase for another top airline in JetBlue. Plus, it serves more than 70 international airlines that collectively serve more than 110 international destinations on six of the seven continents. The result is JFK being the busiest international air passenger gateway into North America. In total, the airport saw more than 239 deals in the first six months of 2021, which is well over one deal per day on average.
