Top Ten European Cities With the Most Attractions

Alpha Travel Insurance has comprised a list of the top European cities based solely on the number of points of interest each has to offer. Travelers-especially those who like visiting Europe-generally base their vacations around popular sights to see. If you have just a week to explore across the pond, here are the top spots that make it easy to pack in as many highlights as possible.

The City of Lights tops the list with 5,800 attractions for visitors. Whether you want to take a boating tour down the Seine River, spend the day going through one of almost 300 museums in the city, getting in some retail therapy or just staring at one of the most visited sights in the world-the Eiffel Tower-Paris has tons to offer every type of tourist.

Coming in second on the list is the global city of London, England. With tons of parks and museums to visit, there's no way you can pack everything into one trip. Plus London is a great starting point for easy day trips to the countryside or even to France.

At just over five thousand attractions-5,079 to be exact-Barcelona, Spain ranks third in Alpha Travel Insurance's list. Barcelona has been receiving a record number of tourists, including 4.4 million cruise passengers through their major cruise terminal in 2018. Because of the influx in tourism, the city has been focusing on marketing campaigns that promote sustainability for the city.

Whether it's your dream to visit the beautiful Red Square and St. Basil's Cathedral or if you just want to see some of the sights from your favorite book "Anna Karenina," Moscow is growing in popularity among tourists. Think about taking a river cruise down the Volga or taking an architectural tour through the city.

Thought to be one of the prettiest cities in Europe, it's easy to add Prague to almost any European itinerary thanks to the ease of train travel in Europe and the cheapness of budget airfare throughout the continent. Explore the Old Town Square and spend some time trying to figure out the Astronomical Clock or take a boat cruise on the Vltava and relax at a beer spa.

Ranked as number six on Alpha Travel Insurance's list is Istanbul, Turkey. With over 200 spas/wellness attractions and over 300 museums, this historic city is made up predominantly of a mix of Armenian, Greek, Jewish and Muslim cultures.

It may come as a surprise to many people that Rome doesn't appear higher in this list, but Alpha Travel Insurance calculated the city to have 3,563 attractions. It's easy to fall in love with the Eternal City, but just be careful not to be a rowdy or disrespectful traveler as the city is starting to crack down on this.

Almost 700 of the 3,491 attractions in Madrid, Spain pertain to the nightlife of the area. And with flamenco dancing and late-night tapas, you'll want to make sure to catch an afternoon siesta to not miss out on any midnight revelry.

Another great stopover city to add to any European itinerary, a trip to Amsterdam can be different depending on what type of traveler you are. In the spring, you can't miss taking a day trip out to the tulip fields.

Rounding out the top ten is Berlin, Germany. With more attractions-3,475 to be exact-than any traveler can see in one visit, you can still make the most of your time with even just a weekend trip to the city.
