As travelers plan next year getaways, it’s helpful to know which destinations you might want to put on your ‘to-do’ list.

New openings, milestone anniversary celebrations, new experiences and events all make these destinations well worth the trip. From North America to the Caribbean, South America and Europe, here are some places you may want to consider in 2027.

Baltimore's Railroad History

Baltimore, Maryland

With its waterfront scenery, American history, distinctive neighborhoods, museums, world-renowned aquarium and sports scene, Baltimore always makes for a great getaway.

The city’s newly renamed National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation leads the nationwide celebration of American railroading’s 200th anniversary in 2027 as Baltimore emphasizes its central role as the birthplace of American railroading, where the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad was founded in 1827.

The Maryland Zoo celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2027, The Preakness Stakes returns to partially rebuilt Pimlico Race Course on Sunday, May 23, 2027, and the CIAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament continues to take place in Baltimore as part of an extended partnership running through 2029.

Washington, D.C.

2027 will prove to be a blockbuster year for our nation’s capital as The National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates its 100th anniversary in the spring. D.C. will host the NFL Draft from April 29-May 1 and the city marks the 60th anniversary of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, the 50th anniversary of Hillwood Estate Museums & Gardens, the former home of cereal heiress, art collector and philanthropist, Marjorie Merriweather Post and the centennial of Charles Lindbergh’s transatlantic flight.

Loudon County, Virginia

A big 2027 story in Loudoun has to do with bubbles. Petit Domaine Sparkling Winery & Estate is Virginia’s first winery devoted exclusively to sparkling wine and it expects to introduce its own locally produced bottles in 2027. The milestone offers an opportunity to highlight Loudoun’s evolving wine scene and position the destination as an emerging leader in Virginia sparkling wine.

Loudoun welcomes the U.S. Figure Skating’s 2027 National Solo Dance Final in September bringing more than 220 skaters ages seven and older to the destination. The Northern Virginia Science Center opens in 2027, billed as the first science center of its kind in the region offering interactive STEM experiences for visitors of all ages.

Western Massachusetts

In celebration of 240 years since Shay’s Rebellion, a historic event that contributed to the push for U.S. Constitution in the early days of our nation, Majestic Theater in Boston will carry a full-length play on the topic.

Among major attractions, The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum celebrates the 70th anniversaries of The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Springfield is the birthplace of their author, Theodor Seuss Geisel. The museum includes Geisel's personal objects, artwork, letters and a recreation of his studio. In March, Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade leads to a cultural story about this former industrial city shaped by successive immigrant communities, including a historically significant Irish population and, today, one of the largest Puerto Rican communities per capita in the continental U.S.

The picturesque island of Barbados celebrates major milestones in 2027. Holetown Festival (Feb. 14–21) celebrates 400 years since the 1627 English settlement at Holetown, offering a timely entry point into Barbados' colonial history, the people and systems affected by that history and how the island interprets its heritage today.

Crop Over Festival, held during the summer, includes Grand Kadooment Day developed from Barbados' sugar-cane harvest tradition and marks the end of the crop season. The modern festival preserves that history through calypso, masquerade, visual arts and other forms of Bajan cultural expression. Barbados Food and Rum Festival in November centers on Barbadian culinary talent, rum producers and food culture. The festival is the news hook, but the stronger story is Barbados' relationship with sugar, rum and food.

Pendry Barbados opens in 2027 as the brand’s first Caribbean resort, featuring 80 oceanfront guestrooms and suites, 46 residences and a 110-berth marina.  Rally Barbados / Barbados Rally Club celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2027 as the Caribbean's largest annual international motorsport event.

Chile, South America

Here’s a major reason to visit Chile in 2027 – the Annular Solar Eclipse on February 6.

While Northern Hemisphere destinations harvest in October, Chile’s Grape Harvest Festivals / Fiestas de la Vendimia takes place from March through May. Harvest celebrations take place across Chile’s wine regions with tastings, local gastronomy, music and traditional harvest activities.

Viña del Mar International Song Festival, also in February is one of Latin America’s best-known music festivals bringing major international and Latin artists to the region, combining Viña del Mar and Valparaíso with beaches, food, architecture, street art and nearby wine country. Fiestas Patrias (Sept. 18–19) is Chile’s national celebration of food, wine, cueca and regional traditions that invites media to share countless stories about the country's offerings for visitors while Tapati Rapa Nui in February celebrates local traditions through ancestral sports, dance, music and cultural competitions.

Vienna, Austria

Vienna loves a commemoration, and 2027 marks Beethoven’s 200th Death Anniversary on March 26. It’s a chance to revisit this city where the composer lived, created many of his most influential works and was laid to rest. The Musikverein will present a major Beethoven program featuring all nine symphonies, the complete piano sonatas and a performance of Missa solemnis by the Vienna Philharmonic and Vienna Singverein on the anniversary date.

The Hotel Bristol Vienna is scheduled to reopen in December 2027 following an extensive multiyear renovation. Located opposite the Vienna State Opera, the historic Luxury Collection property will combine its Viennese heritage with updated technology, sustainable innovations and refreshed luxury accommodations.

Brazil, South America

Also on the South American radar, Brazil will host the FIFA Women’s World Cup from June 24 through July 25, with matches spread among eight host cities. As a result, the country has a strong pipeline of new hotels and resorts for 2027, including the luxurious Anantara, a 70-room resort with 30 private residences near Preá, on Ceará's coast, close to Jericoacoara. VIK Hotel will debut in late 2027, situated about an hour from São Paulo. The complex is planned with vineyards, restaurants, tennis courts, golf, equestrian facilities and a wave pool/artificial beach.

Hosting the World Cup gives visitors a great opportunity to explore Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Salvador, Brasília and the other host cities beyond the stadiums.
