Alaska
Airlines has introduced a new program in which it is cutting its mileage
redemption points to select destinations.
It’s called Global Getaways.
Starting Thursday, April 4, the carrier is offering
savings of up to 50 percent on award redemptions to select international
destinations. That includes the airline
itself and its codeshare partners.
Mileage Plan members can redeem miles throughout April at alaskaair.com for
reduced award travel from September through November.
Nothing against the Midwest, but we’re not talking about trips
to Cedar Rapids here. This is to exotic destinations and the list of choices
the airline will send you changes every three months. And, you get to use less
miles to get there.
The one-way redemptions can be used in economy or premium
economy. The list of getaways includes Tahiti, Fiji, and the Bahamas, among
other destinations. You can travel to Tahiti, for instance, for 20,000 miles
instead of 30,000 miles.
Book a Once-in-a-Lifetime Trip
“That once-in-a-lifetime trip is even closer with our quarterly
Global Getaways promotion for discounted award travel to fabulous, far-flung
locales,” said Brett Catlin, vice president of loyalty, alliances and
sales at Alaska Airlines. “We’re continuing to invest in making Mileage
Plan the most rewarding loyalty program with the industry’s most valuable
currency.”
Alaska Airlines has streamlined its mileage redemption award
points for all users. Now you will know how many points you need to go to
certain destinations aside from this promotion. But the Global Getaways program
starts at 4,500 miles for short trips.
There will also be additional options and incentives for going
from an Alaska Airlines flight to a partner flight. That includes a stopover at
an international destination en route to your final destination at little to no
cost.
Additionally, all flights purchased with the Alaska Airlines co-branded credit card with
Visa qualify for three miles earned for every dollar spent.
