Alaska Airlines has a difficult week dealing with technology issues, including an IT outage on October 24 that grounded all its flights for almost day and a problem with its website and app on Wednesday.
The website and app issues resulted from a global outage of Microsoft’s Azure platform that affected key systems of the airline
Now the airline said it is working with Accenture to perform an audit of the Alaska Air Group’s technology systems as part of the airline’s commitment to build a more resilient, reliable, and guest-centered operation. It said that this collaboration with Accenture will include a top-to-bottom review of Alaska’s technology environment.
This will include assessing standards, processes, and overall system health—with actionable recommendations to be implemented quickly.
Alaska Air will update its forecast for the fourth quarter in early December, “once the full financial impact of the recent IT disruptions is understood,” it said in a regulatory filing.
The carrier has recently lowered its annual profit forecast due to higher fuel costs, which have impacted the airline, along with weather issues. In a regulatory filing, Alaska Air Group said that it will re-forecast for the fourth quarter next month, including the impacts of these IT issues.
The outage on October 24 caused more than 400 flight cancellations and affected almost 50,000 customers.
