Making changes to a flight and staying organized on travel day is about to get a little easier, thanks to new mobile app updates from American Airlines.
The carrier has debuted improvements to make access travel details, making changes, and performing other essential itinerary actions within the app much smoother and simpler.
Travelers will notice most of the changes are to the app’s trip details page, which is like a central hub for everything related to upcoming flights. The section now features new mini banners that help travelers navigate to flight details and other essential actions, like waitlist, check-in, and boarding pass.
The hub also allows travelers to manage trip options, like upgrades, seat selection, checked baggage, changing or canceling a trip, requesting wheelchair services, and adding an infant to a reservation.
The trip details page has also been refreshed with a more modern, streamlined design for great consistency across the app.
New functionalities will also be available in the latest version of the mobile app. Travelers now have the ability to purchase Priority Group 4 boarding within the app during check-in. The upgraded option offers earlier boarding and access to overhead bins, plus dedicated check-in and security lanes where available.
The new version of the app will also allow travelers to purchase AAdvantage miles at check-in to help their accounts grow faster.
Over the next several months, American will continue to roll out new capabilities and features within the app, including the ability to split a joint reservation into separate trips and airport maps to lead travelers to their connecting gates.
“Our goal is to build digital tools our customers actually want to use every time they travel,” said American’s Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden. “Each update builds toward a smoother, more connected experience that reflects how people actually travel today and as expectations change, so will the app.”
