The European backlash against what it perceives as overtourism continues.
The Spanish island of Mallorca, a popular party destination for tourists, has formed a new group and adopted a new marketing slogan.
“Menys Turisme, Més Vida.” Which translates to “Less Tourism, More Life.”
It began as a loosely formed protest slogan but has transitioned into much more. This movement includes banning tourists in some areas and taxing them even more.
Protesters said they would use the Palma Son Sant Joan Airport as a focal point and bring it to a standstill to get their message across. Organizers are also calling for a large social media response. Other possible items discussed include limiting the number of cars for hire and rallying politicians and union officials.
A mass demonstration is also in the works. Europeans are trying to balance their lives and local culture with overtourism.
The reaction against tourism is not unprecedented.
