British Airlines to Status Match With Other Airllines

If you’ve always wanted to fly in style on British Airways without paying a small fortune, now may be your chance. The airline has just announced a limited time “status match” offer for passengers in the United Status.

What does that mean exactly?

For frequent globetrotters who already have status on any one of eight other airlines (Delta Air Lines, Air Canada, Lufthansa, United Airlines, Air France/KLM, Scandinavian Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic) British Airways is offering to match that status - for free.

As part of the limited-time match offer travelers are able to become a Silver or Gold Executive Club Member with British Airways and enjoy more benefits when flying with the airline.

The benefits of Gold and Silver membership with British Airways include a generous bag allowance, executive club benefits, premium service from the airline’s staff, and more.

To be eligible for the status match, travelers must apply online with the airline by May 7 in order to receive either silver or gold status with British Airways. The application process includes uploading proof of your status in a Frequent Flyer program with one of the other airlines already mentioned.

The application review process can take up to five business days. Those who are approved will receive an acceptance email and an upgraded digital membership card. The status will remain in place for six months from the approval date.

It’s also possible to keep your gold or silver status after the six month freebie ends, according to the British Airways website. Here’s the steps to do that:

• Book and travel on two qualifying transatlantic flights (one round trip) within six months of the date we upgrade you.
• Qualifying flights must meet the following criteria:
• Be a British Airways-marketed flight in business (Club World) or First
• Be operated by British Airways, American Airlines, Iberia or Finnair
• Originate from the US, Canada or Mexico
• Fly to the UK and onwards to Europe
