The security identity company CLEAR is now offering TSA PreCheck enrollment services at select airports across the country.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) confirmed the development today in a press release.
“The TSA PreCheck trusted traveler program enables vetted, low-risk travelers to move through security more efficiently,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in a statement. “Additional enrollment providers make it easier for the public to enroll and enjoy a seamless travel experience.”
The news means that CLEAR will now offer in-person TSA PreCheck and renewals at a small number of airports to start, but the list will grow over time. The participating airports currently include:
- Orlando International Airport (MCO) daily from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. ET
- Sacramento International Airport (SMF) Sunday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. PT
- Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) daily from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. ET
Travelers will be able to enroll at dedicated TSA PreCheck airport
enrollment pods that are operated by CLEAR at the participating
airports. The number of airport locations where CLEAR will offer
enrollment is expected to expand over time, according to today’s
press release.
CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker described the new partnership as a “win-win.”
“TSA PreCheck with enrollment by CLEAR provides a fast and efficient airport experience,” Seidman-Becker said in a statement.
Following today’s announcement, TSA PreCheck members may also renew their memberships online with CLEAR, IDEMIA or Telos, regardless of where they enrolled initially.
Since TSA first launched the TSA PreCheck program in 2013, more than 19 million people have enrolled as members. The program allows travelers to be identified as DHS Trusted Travelers.
Among the benefits of membership, TSA’s wait time benchmarks for PreCheck lanes are typically under 10 minutes. TSA PreCheck members are also able to wear their shoes, belts and light jackets through the security screening process, and can keep their laptops and liquids in carry-on bags.
Additionally, in May 2023, the agency expanded the program to allow teenagers aged 13-17 to accompany TSA PreCheck-enrolled parents or guardians through screening when traveling on the same reservation and when the TSA PreCheck indicator appears on the teen’s boarding pass.
Separately, children 12 and under may accompany an enrolled parent or guardian in the TSA PreCheck lanes without restriction.
Earlier today, CLEAR also announced a new partnership with
Hawaiian Airlines ahead of its launch at Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG) on
May 1. As part of that deal, CLEAR will add one lane to the airport’s security screening process. The deal will also result in 33 jobs being added at the airport and is expected to generate around $2.1 million
annually in local economic impact.
Meanwhile, in California there's growing debate over putting a moratorium on CLEAR’s expansion at the state's airports unless the company implements its
own dedicated security screening line.
