Add one more route to the growing number of flights flying into Cancun, Mexico.
Ultra-low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines will now fly from Chicago to the Mexican Caribbean. It will be a nonstop flight.
Frontier already offers flights to the city, but not from Chicago. The carrier will fly from Midway Airport, however, not the busier O'Hare.
Midway is a smaller airport and closer to Downtown Chicago. The flights are daily through the end of February and are currently on sale for $161 roundtrip. Frontier offers a low-cost option to Cancun from Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Denver, Kansas City, Minneapolis, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia and St Louis.
Frontier offers the most flights to Cancun behind Southwest and American Airlines. Altogether, nearly 2,000 flights per month emanate from the United States to Cancun.
Cancun not only has fabulous beaches that are still warm in the winter months but is within close proximity to Mayan ruins. Winter is the dry season in Cancun.
As for concerns about violence, the Mexican military has guaranteed the safety of tourists to Cancun.
