Changes are coming to business class seating for the 747-8 aircraft operated by German flag carrier Lufthansa.
The carrier plans to redesign one of its two decks of business class seats and will make them smaller.
The 747-8 is manufactured by Boeing.
It will still be considered an upgrade, however, as Lufthansa toys with expanding the overall size of business class.
Lufthansa plans on eliminating nine seats from business class. It believes it can elevate passenger comfort by making the Allegris cabin more accessible and spacious.
But the airline still has to integrate its first and business classes. Lufthansa is known for its suites but they are proving difficult to integrate with the plans to revamp business class. There also might be weight distribution issues between the upper and lower decks.
The reduction in the number of business class seats are said to help that issue.
Lufthansa has 19 Boeing 747-8 aircraft in its fleet. The retrofit to the planes should take place by 2026. More details are expected to emerge shortly.
Meanwhile, Lufthansa just announced a new financial agreement.
