Southwest Airlines has applied for a new daily nonstop route between the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) serving Washington, D.C and Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) serving Las Vegas.
The U.S. Department of Transportation will make the decision. The new route is part of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, and is one of five new round-trip flights available at DCA. Nearly 15,000 travelers have registered their support of the new route.
Currently, the route is only flown once per day on another airline, and is considered underserved.
"Travel and tourism are central to Nevada’s economy—sustaining hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs, bringing millions in economic development, and supporting our small businesses,” said U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen. “By increasing the number of flights to Las Vegas from around the country, it will create more opportunities for visitors to come to our state and help bolster our local economy.”
Additionally, the application includes another route: the only one-stop, same-plane service between DCA and Sacramento International Airport (SMF) via Las Vegas.

Southwest Airlines has been shaking up its future flight schedules since June, when it dropped and altered four routes but added seven, with many connecting to Las Vegas.
