After a brief hiatus, Spirit Airlines has reinstated change and cancellation fees for its lowest-tier Go fares, effective as of February 5, 2025. This move reverses the airline’s 2024 policy that had waived such fees.
A Spirit spokesperson confirmed the change to The Points Guy, saying, "For our unbundled Go travel option, change and cancel fees will apply to reservations booked on or after Feb. 5, 2025. Change and cancel fees do not apply to Go Big, Go Savvy and Go Comfy."
The updated fee structure for Go fares includes:
- $59 for changes made 31 to 59 days before departure
- $79 for changes made 7 to 30 days before departure
- $99 for changes made within 7 days of departure
- $99 for cancellations
However, travelers who modify their Go fares at least 60 days in advance will still be able to do so for free.
Spirit’s Go fares function similarly to basic economy fares on major airlines like American, Delta and United. These legacy carriers have done away with change and cancellation fees for most fare types, except for Basic Economy.
For those who prefer more flexibility, Spirit's bundled fare options—Go Big, Go Comfy and Go Savvy—will continue to exclude change and cancellation fees, offering a better option for travelers who think they may need to adjust their itinerary.
All passengers, regardless of fare type, can cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund in the form of a travel credit. Beyond that window, customers who cancel will be issued a reservation credit valid for use on new bookings within 90 days. These credits can also be applied toward baggage and seat selection fees.
