Carnival
Cruise Line has gotten an early start on the festivities to commemorate the
250th
anniversary of the founding of the United
States of America.
The line, which
serves as an official partner of the nation’s America250 campaign, hosted a
patriotic event aboard Carnival Pride in Baltimore on Saturday ahead of the Fourth
of July holiday. Carnival took the initiative as “America’s cruise line”, a
status it has claimed as one of the country’s biggest cruise brands and the one
that sails out of more U.S. homeports than any other.
Held at the Port
of Baltimore, the event brought together local officials, community
organizations, veterans and business leaders to commemorate the nation's
upcoming semiquincentennial while highlighting Carnival's longstanding ties to
the city.

“As America’s
cruise line, we’re proud to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary
in our homeport cities,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise
Line. “We’re bringing people together to honor our nation, celebrate the local
community and thank those who protect our freedom.”
Guests boarding
Carnival Pride for the occasion were welcomed by a towering, 40-foot inflatable
Uncle Sam hat displayed on the ship's top deck, setting a festive tone before
the voyage even began.
In line with
Carnival’s long-held tradition of honoring those in the armed services, the celebration
also paid special tribute to members of the military and first responders. Active-duty
service members and veterans attending the event received specially designed,
limited-edition America250 challenge coins in recognition of their service.

Bringing a
family-friendly touch to the festivities, Dr. Seuss's beloved character, the Cat
in the Hat, made a special in-person appearance dressed in patriotic attire to
help mark the occasion.
The Baltimore
gathering is just the first of several America250-themed events Carnival has
planned this summer. Similar celebrations are scheduled to take place in the
cruise line's homeport communities of Long Beach, Tampa and Jacksonville.
The patriotic
spirit won't be limited to the ports, either. Guests sailing across Carnival's
fleet can also expect special onboard activities throughout the summer, while
several ships positioned on both the East and West coasts will gather to watch
Fourth of July fireworks displays together.
