Spirit Airlines has changed its baggage policy for active military members, now offering two free checked bags and one free carry-on for passengers with proper military ID.
The change comes as Spirit continues to support America's veterans and active service members, including free flights for wounded warriors and their families. For active military members who have already purchased bag passes, they will be eligible to receive full refunds.

Spirit Airlines president and CEO Robert Fornaro released a statement about the change:
"We are very pleased to take this step to honor the men and women who protect us every day. This is the right thing to do and the right time to implement this change. The best thing we can do for military members and their families is still to provide the lowest possible prices for air travel. After eight years of impressive growth as an ultra-low cost carrier, this is the first of many steps Spirit is taking to improve the overall customer experience. We're thrilled to make this move to honor the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedom."
With the changes, Spirit Airlines joins other top companies like American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines which already have similar policies in place. For American Airlines, the company offers active military members three complimentary checked bags.
Delta Air Lines offers military members up to four bags in the main cabin and in all cabins on Delta Connection flights, as well as up to five bags in the Delta One, first and business classes.

Another major airline that has a similar baggage policy is Southwest Airlines, which stated that active military members will not be subjected to excess, oversize or overweight baggage charges.
