TAP Air Portugal, the national carrier of Portugal, today announced plans to relocate its New York operations to Terminal 6 (T6) at John F. Kennedy International Airport in 2026, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to the U.S. market and elevating the travel experience for its customers.
Having served New York for more than 50 years, TAP currently operates daily nonstop service between JFK and Lisbon, using its Airbus A330neo for most of the year and the A321neo during the winter season. Operations will continue from Terminal 1 until the transition to T6 is complete.
The move will place TAP alongside key partners including JetBlue and leading international carriers such as Lufthansa and Air Canada, strengthening connectivity and enabling smoother onward travel for customers through expanded codeshare and alliance opportunities.
For TAP, the transition to T6 supports its broader strategy to modernize operations and deliver a more consistent, premium customer journey. For passengers, it means faster airport processing, shorter walking distances, and a more intuitive, stress-free experience from check-in to boarding. The terminal’s advanced technology – including biometric and self-service options – will reduce wait times, while enhanced lounge, dining, and retail offerings will further improve comfort and convenience.
“Moving to Terminal 6 is an important step in TAP’s evolution in the U.S.,” said Luís Rodrigues, CEO of TAP Air Portugal. “It allows us to better serve our customers with a more efficient, connected, and elevated airport experience, while positioning TAP for continued growth in this key market.”
This move reflects TAP’s ongoing investment in customer-focused innovation and its role as a leading international carrier connecting Portugal with the world.
