Frequent fliers with American Airlines just got a new way to use their hard-earned miles.
The Dallas-based carrier just announced that members of its AAdvantage loyalty program can now redeem their AAdvantage miles for gift cards from a variety of popular brands.
With the new perk, passengers can redeem gift cards valued from $10 to $500 across shopping, dining, and entertainment brands like Sephora, Nike, Best Buy, Target, Lululemon, and Adidas. Travel companies like Airbnb and Amtrak are also redemption options on American’s gift card portal.
Redemptions start at 2,000 miles for $10 gift cards and range up to 100,000 miles for $500 gift cards.
In addition to adding the gift card redemption option to its loyalty program, American has been expanding ways its travelers can use their miles in recent months. Last year, the carrier added new redemption capabilities to its AAdvantage Cruises partnership.
The airline’s loyalty members have been looking for more flexibility in how they redeem miles, according to Scott Long, American’s senior vice president of AAdvantage. “By expanding our portfolio of member offerings and adding new ways to use miles, such as gift cards, we’re making it easier for customers to engage with the program and experience the full value of AAdvantage.”
Travelers can also use the miles to book AAdvantage hotels and rental cars, AAdvantage Vacations packages, as well as experiences through Mastercard Priceless experiences portal, which includes access to sports events, culinary experiences, and more.
