The largest airline operating at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is promising some of the cheapest flights of the summer from the New Jersey airport.
Air traffic controller shortages, telecom issues and runway construction have led to headaches at the United Airlines hub, but the silver lining has been a reduction in capacity and a bad rap for the airport, which CEO Scott Kirby is resulting in some of the lowest fares in the airline's history.
"Customers can book with confidence. We did get well behind on bookings because of the perception issues around Newark recently. That means that more seats are available, which means the fares are better than they're ever going to be in the years to come," Kirby said during a press conference at Newark this week.
"Now is the time to book your vacation. If you want to go to Europe or head across the country, now is the time."
Kirby had previously hinted at the tremendous flight deals at last week's The Wall Street Journal's Future of Everything, telling attendees that "it’s going to be the cheapest it’s probably ever going to be in history."
"I don’t really like that, but you ought to book, and it’s going to be the least crowded," he added, according to Fox Business.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently completed construction of Runway 4-Left/22-Right at Newark ahead of schedule, which will allow airlines to ramp up their flight schedules in the second half of 2025.
In the meantime, Newark is a great option for travelers in search of a great deal this summer.
