A United Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing in Lagos, Nigeria.
Several passengers and crew members were seriously injured and required stabilization. Others were given hotel accommodations for the day.
The plane was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The flight was carrying 245 passengers, eight flight attendants and three pilots.
The flight originally emanated in Lagos before being forced to return. It was headed to Washington.
The cause was only described as a midair incident. The aircraft suddenly lost pressure and experienced multiple sharp descents. One passenger said he hit his head on the ceiling during the turbulence and briefly lost consciousness.
United Airlines officially confirmed the incident and described it as a "technical issue."
It is not known how many passengers and crew were wearing seat belts at the time.
This isn’t the first time for severe turbulence on a United flight.
