Amtrak and U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced
the unveiling of the Freedom250 NextGen Acela train in celebration of our nation’s
quincentennial.
Following the May unveiling, the red, white and blue train
departed on its inaugural journey to Philadelphia with a class of 4th
grade students on a field trip to visit the Liberty Bell, Carpenters’ Hall and
other landmarks central to America’s independence.
Drawing inspiration from the U.S. Department of
Transportation’s Freedom250 campaign, the train features bold patriotic imagery
reflecting themes of freedom, mobility and opportunity.
The Freedom250-themed NextGen
Acela also highlights the future of rail travel in America. The train will
operate regularly scheduled service along the Northeast Corridor, connecting
Washington, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, and other destinations.
Expanding the celebration nationwide, Amtrak is deploying
decals featuring the America250, Freedom250, and DOT250 logos on 20 additional
ALC-42 and ACS-64 locomotives operating across the United States, celebrating
America’s birthday from coast to coast.
In April 2026, Amtrak also unveiled a
new train-inspired replica Liberty Bell at Gray 30th Station in
Philadelphia.
America’s railroad currently offers a national network of
more than 500 destinations in 46 states, Washington, D.C. and three Canadian
provinces.
