There is no doubt that a getaway to Punta Cana is a little slice of paradise.
But there’s so much more to Punta Cana and so much more to the Dominican Republic. The problem is, because of the country's current transportation situation, it can be hard to get beyond just the resorts in Punta Cana.
Until now.
Officials in the DR have decided to launch a tourist train to connect Punta Cana with the capital city of Santo Domingo. It’s a chance to experience one of the great cultural centers in the Caribbean and all of Latin America.
The decision was recently made by government officials in the Dominican Republic.
It not only will help visitors feel like they’re no longer trapped in Punta Cana, but will increase tourism to the capital city. And it will be more like other Caribbean countries in which you can get away for a day or so from the resort area and explore the cultural aspect.
It was reported that a new national railroad system will begin construction late this year. The line between Punta Cana and Santo Domingo will be among the first services built. The estimated $3 billion project will be privately funded.
The train service is supposed to connect all the provinces in the country, including cruise ports and airports.
