Well, that dream might not be too far in the future.

Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne plans to make an announcement Wednesday about beginning trials of driverless cars in the UK, Mashable reported.
The plan is to start trials on local roads in the UK this year and on motorways in 2017, according to Mashable. Osborne hopes driverless cars will be used by many people by 2020.

"Driverless cars could represent the most fundamental change to transport since the invention of the internal combustion engine," Osborne said in an email to Mashable.
Osborne will propose doing away with regulations that prevent driverless cars from operating on motorways, Mashable reported. He will also propose the creation of a $21.6 million "connected corridor" between London and Dover.
