Those anticipating the christening of an eagerly awaited addition to a well-known fleet of luxury river cruise ships will have to be patient just a little bit longer-but it will be worth the wait.
American Queen Steamboat Company has announced that its newest vessel, the American Duchess-originally slated to launch in July-will now not make its maiden voyage until mid-August.
This gives the designers more time to put the finishing touches on every part of the ship, an important priority for a company that takes pride in its attention to detail. This is a company that doesn't believe in cutting corners, even if that means the need to delay a ship's christening for a short time.
American Duchess will now set sail from New Orleans on Aug. 14, following a grand christening ceremony the day before. The ship will offer overnight excursions from New Orleans, and highlights on its itinerary include a number of notable cities throughout Louisiana. Later in the year, it will also head out for longer voyages to destinations including Memphis and Minneapolis.
A ship that truly stands out in a league of its own, American Duchess offers a cruising experience unlike any other. Even passengers who have taken many cruises will find this to be a unique environment. The first all-suite paddlewheeler on U.S. rivers, it offers the ultimate combination of luxury and comfort, with healthy dashes of elegance and nostalgic charm thrown in for good measure.
With suite sizes that range from 180 square feet to 550 square feet, this ship offers some of the most spacious accommodations available on any riverboat in the country. The two-level Loft Suites are among the most exclusive and expansive suites you can find on a ship of this kind and includes a private balcony where you can take in beautiful views.
The dining ambiance here is also top-notch. Guests can enjoy delicious meals served in a single-seating schedule in the beautiful Grand Dining Room. The 5-star dining offerings include a diverse menu infused with traditional local dishes. Guests who prefer a laid back setting in which to eat can opt to dine at The River Club and Terrace, which has a casual atmosphere and allows for dining at your own pace.
