No one was injured in an engine room fire aboard the Boudicca cruise ship, according to its British operator, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines.
The fire broke out around 4 a.m. Jan. 25 while sailing off the coast of Casablanca, Morocco. The fire was quickly extinguished, but the ship is proceeding toward the Canary Islands at a slower speed than usual, Olsen said in a statement posted on its website and Facebook.
The 784 guests did not head for muster stations "as the situation was contained within the Engine Room by our crew members," the statement said.
Hotel services are operating normally, the company said, posting the above photo to show guests enjoying the pool and sun.
"We are reviewing the itinerary and assessing the extent of the damage to the two main engines and electrical cables, and will make any repairs necessary at the next port of call," the company stated. "A revised itinerary will be advised in due course." The line is working with maritime authorities.
Boudicca is on an 18-night "Cape Verde & the Canaries" cruise, which departed from Southampton on Jan. 20. The ship sailed from Cadiz, Spain, on Jan. 24 and is expected to arrive in Arrecife, Lanzarote, the morning of Jan. 26.
