Hurtigruten, a world leader in sustainable polar travel, once again raises the bar for alternative approaches to explorer travel with the introduction of a complimentary photography and digital media program, available on all MS Midnatsol voyages to Antarctica from November 2016 through March 2017.

"We've partnered with some of the world's best nature and wildlife photographers from Stavanger Foto, one of Norway's largest photography vendors, who will share their expertise in free onboard workshops designed to help our guests - no matter what their skill level - capitalize on the spectacular photographic opportunities in this region of the world and effectively preserve their memories, online and in print," says Hurtigruten US managing director Gordon Dirker.

There are six Discovery itineraries including the Legendary Magellan Chilean Fjords and Antarctica, where guests celebrate the holidays in the fjords, Falkland Islands and Antarctica (18 days, priced from $7,728); and Discover Patagonia & Antarctica, an in-depth exploration of these two great sites (16 days, priced from $7,041.)

The complimentary photography and digital program, designed for all ages and abilities, includes lectures on basic still and video photography techniques; tips and tricks for handling cameras in extreme conditions; and an introduction to wildlife photography with in-field sessions to practice subject selection and image composition.

The focus is on nature-based learning and how to work in remote and pristine environments. During the voyage, a special Hurtigruten television photography channel will showcase highlights of the day's photography from professionals and students alike.

At the conclusion of the voyage, a curated compilation of representative images and videos will be made available online for Hurtigruten guests to view or download.

Hurtigruten has been sailing polar waters for more than 120 years, has more combined experience than any other operator and maintains the highest maritime reputation.

The MS Midnatsol is a purpose-built ice class 1X ship with open seas stabilizers, forward-scanning sonar, ice radar and an extensive range of safety equipment and an expert staff - making it ideally suited for maneuverability in the waters of Antarctica.

Landings and 'iceberg cruising' are accommodated in sturdy and versatile landing crafts, launched from the side of the ship so that guests are able to get in and out of the craft while protected from winds and weather. This leaves the ship's top deck open for guest enjoyment - in contrast with competitors who use the space for Zodiac storage.

Additionally, the Midnatsol's two-story panoramic lounge and large expanses of windows makes Antarctica's stunning scenery viewable from incredibly comfortable environs throughout the ship for a maximum 500 passengers.

Hurtigruten is a world leader in expedition voyages, sailing to the most remote of destinations, including Antarctica, Greenland and the Arctic's Spitsbergen, as well as year-round along Norway's coast and to Europe in the spring and fall. The company's fleet of 14 intimate ships, which each carry 100 to 646 guests, allows travelers to enjoy the scenery and culture of the destination in a relaxed atmosphere.
