Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic has announced Basecamp Channel Islands. The wildness and wellness adventure will be operated in partnership with exhale Spa. The itinerary will explore the Channel Islands National Park off the coast of Southern California.
The five-day voyage aboard the 62-guest National Geographic Sea Lion is billed as "part safari, part adult camp."
Known as the 'Galapagos of North America,' the Channel Islands are home to some 2,000 species of plants and animals. More than 100 of them are found nowhere else on earth. Island marine life ranges from microscopic plankton to the blue whale.
Basecamp Channel Islands will depart from the Port of Los Angeles. The route visits East Anacapa Island, home to Anacapa Lighthouse, the last major light station built on the west coast in 1912. Santa Cruz is the largest island in California, and houses more than 600 plant species, 140 birds, including large colonies of nesting seabirds, and 11 land mammal species. R
osa Island is home to one of only two naturally-occurring groves of Torrey Pines in the world. And, San Miguel Island is the habitat of five different seal species. The most famous of the Channel Islands, Santa Catalina Island, is home to the indigenous Santa Cruz Island Fox. It's also famous for its roaming herds of bison (not indigenous) and it's one incorporated city, Avalon.
Wellbeing experiences will be led by an exhale fitness teacher, spa therapist or an exhale-trained Lindblad Wellness specialist. In addition to Beach Boot Camp, Power Yoga and cardio classes on deck, guests can hike, kayak and paddleboard.
Departures of Basecamp Channel Islands take place on October 17 and 24, 2018.
