Latin America luxury resort developer Grupo Vidanta will be adding a cruise line to its portfolio.
According to a report in Cruise Industry News, Group Vidanta, based in Mexico, has acquired the Voyager cruise ship from All Leisure Group, which was the owner of Swan Hellenic and Voyages of Discovery.
Built in the 1990s with the capacity for 540 passengers, the ship has been sent to Cadiz, Spain, to undergo a refurbishment. It will reemerge from a total retrofit as the Vidanta Alegria that will offer Mexico and Latin America sailings.
In addition to the coming Alegria, the company has its eye on more ships in the future.
A major refurbishment is a good fit for a company such as Grupo Vidante, which has undertaken major renovations in the past-and has several other projects currently underway.
One of its largest commitments is an update to part of Acapulco's beachfront, which is being transformed into Mexico's newest "riviera," the Riviera Diamante.
It's also behind the much anticipated Cirque du Soleil theme park that is scheduled to debut in 2018 with a water and nature park as well as an outdoor evening show that will accommodate between 3,000 and 5,000 spectators.
