MSC Cruises has canceled MSC Poesia's scheduled sailing out of Miami this week due to what it called a "regulatory matter" that came up over the weekend, according to CBS News.
The news came just two days after the ship was detained by Coast Guard officials in South Florida."We have made the difficult decision to cancel the current sailing," MSC Cruises said in a statement. "We recognize how disappointing and frustrating this news is for our guests, and we sincerely apologize for the disruption to their holiday."The sailing's more than 2,000 guests will receive a full refund of their cruise fare, the cruise line confirmed. MSC Cruises is also assisting with getting impacted travelers home.According to Coast Guard Capt. Frank Florio, commander of the Miami sector, authorities "identified deficiencies with systems on board the vessel that we are addressing with MSC," ultimatley preventing the voyage from beginning on time. The ship will not be freed until "the deficiencies are corrected and it is cleared for departure."
MSC Cruises said that it is cooperating with Coast Guard officials to ensure the ship complies with international standards and U.S. regulations.
