Royal Caribbean is celebrating a key construction milestone for its fourth Icon Class ship.
The cruise line hosted a keel-laying ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard for the forthcoming vessel, which has not yet been named.
Work is now officially underway on the new ship, which is scheduled to set sail in 2027.
Crews put the first building block into the dry dock where the ship will be constructed. Executives with Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku set down a layer of newly minted coins before the keel was lifted and put in place, a traditional move meant to endow the ship with good fortune.
The unnamed ship will join Royal Caribbean’s existing fleet of Icon Class vessels, which includes Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas and the forthcoming Legend of the Seas.
So far, the company has revealed few details about the fourth ship, but says it will share more information in the future.
