It’s seemingly a perfect marriage.
Sea Cloud Cruises is collaborating with
Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens, one of the premier art collector’s
museums in the United States, to celebrate founder Marjorie Merriweather Post’s
beloved yacht.
There will be a special exhibition next
year, starting in February 2025, at the museum to pay homage to the original and
legendary Sea Cloud.
Sea Cloud was built by Merriweather Post
and then-husband E.F. Hutton as the largest personal yacht in the world. The
original Sea Cloud sails to this day. There have been two subsequent iterations
of the yacht since it first set sail.
“The legacy of Sea Cloud Cruises is
synonymous with Marjorie Merriweather Post and we are thrilled Hillwood Estate,
Museum & Gardens has chosen to dive deeply into Sea Cloud’s rich history
through this special exhibition,” said Mirell Reyes, president of Sea Cloud
Cruises.
"To share this engaging story and
explore the sea-faring legacy of Marjorie Post, Sea Cloud Cruises will bring
Hillwood curators and experts onboard exclusive sailings aboard both the
original Sea Cloud and Sea Cloud Spirit," Reyes continued.
Post is a famous socialite and the
daughter of General Foods founder C.W. Post. Hutton, of course, is a legendary
name in financial circles.
As part of the celebration of the yacht
and the exhibition, Hillwood curator Thomas Wu will sail aboard Sea Cloud’s 10-night
Athens to Venice voyage July 19-29, 2024, cataloging artifacts, reviewing ship
documents and hosting a special lecture for up to 64 privileged guests.
“The original Sea Cloud embodies all that
was so remarkable about Marjorie Merriweather Post,” said Hillwood executive
director Kate Markert. “Like her renowned art collection, Sea Cloud was an impeccably
crafted work of art, allowing Post to sail the world in luxury for personal
travel, social and diplomatic entertainment, and hosting notable guests."
"We look forward to sharing the story
of Sea Cloud in the special exhibition and are thrilled that Sea Cloud Cruises
is joining us in celebrating this remarkable ship and its many lives,"
Markert continued.
