UPDATE: TravelPulse has been informed that John Delaney will no longer be able to join the cruise, but VP of Sales Steve Simao will be onboard instead, tweeting at @WindstarSteve.

To think that the Caribbean is damaged beyond repair is a fallacy, and Windstar Cruises President John Delaney wants to prove it to you.

The executive himself will be onboard for the line's first 7-day San Juan sailing of the season aboard Star Pride on November 25.

"Although areas of the Caribbean are still rebuilding after the recent hurricanes, so much of the Caribbean is open and welcoming visitors to their wondrous islands," said Delaney, in a press release. "Travelers should not be concerned about beginning or ending a cruise in San Juan, where the cruise terminal has been operational for weeks, along with the airport. I'll be personally making the trip, arriving the day before my cruise to enjoy time in Old San Juan, giving updates on my Twitter account, and sharing first-person stories on Windstar's Facebook page."

To entice guests to return and encourage travel agents to spread the word, Windstar is going one step further with its special Caribbean Is Open Cruise Package. The line is extending savings, a $200 onboard credit and complimentary Wi-Fi internet access. Fares start at only $1,499 per person.

Agents can also take advantage of a Caribbean Take 5 perk wherein reserving five staterooms or suites on any Caribbean cruise gets them a free voyage.

Having just disembarked the Wind Spirit in Tahiti, I can personally testify to the wonderful intimate nature of a Windstar cruise, applicable to the Caribbean as well. Its sailing ships and motor yachts are small enough to reach equally tiny islands and ports. Anse Mitan in Martinique and Deshaies in Guadeloupe are just two newly announced examples.

The line purposefully avoids Western Atlantic and Western Caribbean locations frequented by larger mega ships, favoring unique gems instead.

"Windstar can offer experiences and destinations others logistically can't," added Delaney, in the release.

"We also do things many travelers think are long gone, like our open bridge policy, private beach barbecue experiences, and a water sports platform to jump right into the blue waters the Apollo astronauts swooned over from space. Not everyone has to chart the same course."

Star Collector Voyages are especially valuable opportunities to explore the Caribbean on extended 14-day or longer routes that feature free daily laundry-always a helpful bonus.

Another popular itinerary option that is returning for 2017 and 2018 is Jewels of the Windward Islands. Highlighted destinations include St. Lucia and Bequia in the Grenadines.
