As many a family traveler knows well, hotel accommodations can make or break a family vacation.
If a property is not exactly welcoming to families, it can be a less than pleasant stay. But properties that go out of their way to accommodate the needs and interests of all ages, well that can be a little slice of heaven for family travelers.
The good news is that Cheapflights has helpfully sorted through its data to identify the most highly-rated destinations globally for families - based specifically on family hotel ratings and reviews.
And what did they discover, you ask?
It seems Rio de Janeiro, Brazil just may be one of the best places on the planet for those traveling with children.
The experts at Cheapflights say the city “stood out” from all others by not only earning a respectable family-friendly hotel review rating of 9.1 out of 10, but also for having the lowest overall travel cost.
The average flight to Rio de Janeiro is about $722, while hotels average about $167 per night.
Meanwhile, in Europe, it seems the city of Budapest, Hungary, tops the charts for family travelers. Based on the Cheapflights research, it is the location with the least expensive family-friendly accommodations, averaging about $143 per night. Budapest's family-friendly hotel score meanwhile is 9.0 out of 10.
These are just some of the data points from Cheapflights that may come in handy the next time you’re pondering where to take the family on vacation.
Top 10 Destinations for Families
It seems Rio de Janiero and Budapest aren’t the only top choices for family travelers.
The good folks at Cheapflights have ranked the top 10 cities worldwide for families, based solely on the scores each destination received for family-friendliness of local hotels. Here’s what they found:

1.Buenos Aires, Argentina: 9.2
2.Rio de Janiero, Brazil: 9.1
3.Athens, Greece: 9.1
4.Budapest, Hungary: 9.0
5.Seville, Spain: 8.9
6.Nice, France: 8.9
7.Warsaw, Poland: 8.9
8.Sao Paulo, Brazil: 8.9
9.Venice, Italy: 8.8
10. Rome, Italy: 8.8
Budget-friendly Destinations
The Cheapflights data also shows that a few of the destinations on the top 10 list are also very wallet-friendly.
In addition to the already mentioned Brazil and Hungary, it seems Seville, Spain is easy on the family budget as well, with flights averaging about $778 and hotel rooms at just $198 per night.
Flights to Athens, Greece, meanwhile, are a bit more costly, coming in around $1048 per ticket. The average nightly rate for a hotel room in Athens is $226, according to Cheapflights.
The Cheapflights report did not provide price data for the other destinations on its top 10 ranking.
