April 20th kicked off National Park Week and many are excited to pack up their gear and make their way to some of the most beautiful places in the U.S.
While not everyone can take advantage of the free entrance available on April 20, there are plenty of other ways to celebrate National Park Week.
For one, travelers should still consider visiting the national parks throughout the remainder of National Park Week. You could take advantage of Outdoorsy's newly-launched 40+ national park guides by planning your trip and booking an RV rental within your favorite national park.
Also, keep in mind, that the parks will be celebrating a different theme each day of National Park Week. On April 21, the national parks will recognize the service of military and veterans on Military & Veterans Recognition Day. Earth Day, or April 22, will be celebrated at the parks with science-focused activities, while April 23, Transportation Tuesday, will focus on how the national parks are made accessible through transportation projects.
On Wild Wednesday, April 24, the parks are encouraging visitors to explore wildlife in the parks. For Throwback Thursday, the National Park Service wants visitors to share throwback national park photos on social media with hashtags like #NationalParkWeek, #ThrowbackThursday, #FindYourPark or #EncuentraTuParque.
April 26, Friendship Friday, will highlight philanthropic measures at the parks, while April 27 will be BARK Ranger Day, a day that highlights the dog volunteers of the parks. On the last day, April 28, Park Rx Day will focus on the health benefits of national parks.
Each national park will celebrate the daily themes how they see fit, so be sure to look at the events page of the national park before your visit.
Let's say you can't make the trip to any of the national parks for National Park Week - don't worry. Google Earth has released a virtual tour of 31 of the country's national parks. You'll be able to see everything from the ancient Pueblo dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado to the Kanarraville Falls in Zion National Park.
Last but not least, celebrate National Parks Week by donating a monetary gift that will go toward helping the U.S. national parks stay beautiful and accessible for generations to come.
