In a testament to Croatia's commitment to sustainable tourism, Minister Nikolina Brnjac has been honored with the Kristofor Medal by Europe’s foremost automobile club, ADAC, and the German Automobile Club, acknowledging the country's remarkable achievements in this field.

The accolade underscores Croatia's recent reforms aimed at managing sustainable tourism development, which are now being lauded as an example of best practice for other European and global destinations. These reforms established a robust legislative and strategic framework for tourism management, emphasizing the conservation of resources and enhancing the quality of life for both tourists and local residents.

"Thank you to ADAC for recognizing the importance of this Act, as well as all the efforts that the Government of the Republic of Croatia has invested in creating a strategic and legislative framework for the development of sustainable tourism in Croatia. This award confirms that the direction of sustainable tourism is the right and only direction to which we should strive", expressed Minister Brnjac.

In establishing its Tourism Act, Croatia became the first country to establish such legislation. It pioneered data-based management of tourism development, ensuring a more sustainable and enjoyable experience for tourists while also fostering the well-being of local communities.

The ADAC Kristofor Medal is an important recognition of Croatia’s long-standing collaboration with the German automobile club and ADAC, with its bestowal on Minister Brnjac reflecting Croatia's leadership in sustainable tourism practices. This recognition joins a series of accolades, including acknowledgment by the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism, formerly UNWTO) and the European Commission, which cited Croatia as a model of good practice in tourism development.

Croatia's innovative approach to tourism management has attracted attention on a global scale. The country's inclusion in the European Union's (E.U.) strategic document "Transition Path for Tourism" highlights Croatia as an example of exemplary practice within the context of its Strategy for the Development of Sustainable Tourism until 2030, alongside the financial support provided for its implementation through the NPOO program.

"I am extremely happy that Croatia is recognized in the world as a leader in the development of sustainable tourism, and we are one of the few countries that has this kind of Tourism Act, which enabled each destination to develop in the direction of sustainability on the basis of exact data, and our examples and good practices will serve as guidelines for the development of tourism in other European and world destinations", said Minister Brnjac.
