In the booming marijuana tourism metropolis of Denver, Colo., where recreational use of the substance is legal, the official pot smoker's holiday of 4/20 has gone smoothly for the thousands of natives and tourists, according to Denver Police, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
Just don't have a toke in public. Denver police have been tweeting revelers all through the weekend about the specifics of the law, one major one being the ban on consumption in public. Most of their 60 citations on Saturday were for public consumption. Regarding the celebrations, held near the Denver City and County Building, Police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez told the AP on Sunday, "It certainly seems to be going OK."
Officials did say there was no permit for a celebration on the exact date of 4/20, so they told the AP citations would be issued at the discretion of law enforcement.
One of their latest tweets declared, "We'd prefer not to be buzzkills this 4/20 weekend. Consume responsibly, and designate a sober driver now."
