The U.S. State Department continues to evaluate potential threats to American travelers venturing abroad ahead of the peak summer travel period.
Officials have issued new guidance for a bevy of travel destinations in June, advising Americans on how to proceed when it comes to international travel.

Widespread Advisory Updates Across Africa
Africa saw a handful of updated travel advisories over the past month, including countries like Uganda (Level 4), Rwanda (Level 3), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Level 4), Mali (Level 4), Nigeria (Level 3), Lesotho (Level 2) and Botswana (Level 2).

The Congo remains effectively off limits this summer due to the ongoing threat of the Ebola virus. Meanwhile, more popular travel destinations such as Rwanda and Nigeria receive Level 3 advisories encouraging Americans to reconsider any plans to visit due to potential threats such as crime, terrorism, unrest and inadequate health services.
In Southern Africa, travelers are asked to exercise increased caution in places like Botswana and Lesotho due to common threats like crime.
Canada Remains Among World's Safest Places
Canada received an updated Level 1 travel advisory ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 5, with the State Department reminding Americans that "Canada is generally a safe destination for travelers."
The North American country also ranked inside the top 15 on the latest Global Peace Index.

Venezuela Receives Update Ahead of US Flight Resumption
The State Department issued an updated Level 3 travel advisory for Venezuela on June 9 as flights between the South American country and the U.S. resume for the first time in nearly a decade.
Travelers are advised to reconsider travel this summer due to the risk of crime, kidnapping, terrorism and poor health infrastructure. Americans are also asked to avoid travel to a handful of states and regions, including the Venezuela-Colombia border region, Amazonas, Apure, Aragua, Bolivar, Guarico and Tachira.

Latest Guidance on Turkey Travel
American officials remind travelers to exercise increased caution in Turkey this summer due to terrorism, armed conflict and arbitrary detentions.
Visitors are advised to avoid traveling within six miles of the country's borders with Syria or Iraq for any reason, due to the risk of terrorism and armed conflict.
