Mexico is expecting over 9.3 million cruise ship passengers to visit popular ports on both its Caribbean and Pacific coasts this year, a new record.
Riviera Maya News reported that the Secretary of Tourism for Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, shared the country's predicted data. Mexico is scheduled to receive 3,122 cruise ships in Mexican ports, 8 percent more than in 2023 and 5.8 percent more than in 2019. That represents a 2.4 percent increase in cruise passenger arrivals.
The port of Cozumel remains the most popular cruise port in the country, welcoming 1,199 ships. That’s 34.8 percent of all cruise ships scheduled to port in Mexico throughout the year. Mahahual/Costa Maya is the second most popular cruise port in Mexico, scheduled to welcome 598 cruise ships representing 19.2 percent of the country’s total arrivals.
Both Cozumel and a large portion of Mahahual/Costa Maya are located in the Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo, one of the most popular regions of Mexico for travelers.
On the Pacific side, Ensenada will be the most popular, welcoming 278 cruise ships, or 8.9 percent of all scheduled ships. Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta will welcome 225 and 167 cruise ships in 2024, respectively.
