The National Trust Fund for Tourism Development (Fonatur) is investing more than $1.6 million to improve and rehabilitate Cancun's hotel zone.
According to a report in Galu Comunicacion, Juan Gonzalez Castelan, the regional delegate for Fonatur, the improvements will create and repair infrastructure, tourist stops, the irrigation network, electrical and treatment plants and more.
The actions aim to optimize and improve the image of the Hotel Zone in Cancun, Mexico.
The first stage calls for the renovation of the Pok Ta Pok treatment plant, which represents an investment of nearly $1 million.
Tourist stops, garbage cans and replacement of street lighting along Kulkulcan Boulevard represents a $400,000 investment.
Almost $200,000 will be spent on renovations to the irrigation network used to maintain the gardens of the hotel zone.
Castelan noted that it was important to properly maintain hotels and tourist zones to keep Cancun a top international destination.
